Parties to the European Environment Agency has warned European citizens to be careful in choosing household goods , because the chemicals contained in them can cause cancer , diabetes , obesity , and even infertility . Around the items that are used every day in homes , for example cosmetics , cutlery , and drugs , there are chemical compounds that interfere with the function of endocrine hormones and other hormones that affect performance . The chemical compounds are generally mixed into the food and absorbed by the body , thus endangering the health of both humans and animals .

For decades , there was an increase in disease in humans , such as prostate cancer , breast cancer , infertility in men , as well as diabetes . Even chemicals that mimic the female hormone is also associated with the causes of breast cancer . Many scientists think that the disease is associated with increased frequency of human eating foods that have been contaminated with a chemical that is widely used.

" Scientific research gathered over the last few decades suggests that endocrine disruption is a real problem , with serious effects on wildlife , and possibly humans, too , " said the executive director of the European Environment Agency , Jacqueline McGlade , as quoted by the Daily Mail ( 14 / 05 ) .

The study also mentions that there has been a lot of evidence that says the chemicals affect the performance of hormones , immune system , reproductive , and neurological problems in animals and humans . The influence caused by the consumption of food or water has been mixed with hazardous chemicals .

Nevertheless , the experts themselves admit the problem of chemicals in household items that cause cancer in humans is somewhat difficult to prevent because of the many difficulties encountered in time , cost , and the methods used .
