Heartburn increase the risk of throat cancer

Recent studies have revealed that people who frequently suffer from heartburn 78 percent more at risk of developing throat cancer .

However , the study also revealed that taking an antacid when experiencing heartburn have a protective effect - people who suffer from heartburn but taking antacids have a 41 percent lower risk of throat cancer than those who do not take medication at all .

The researchers , as reported by the Daily Mail ( 26/5 ) , published their findings in the journal Cancer Epidemiology , Biomarkers and Prevention , involving 631 participants , 468 of whom suffered from throat cancer and 163 cancer of the vocal cords .

All participants were asked to fill out questionnaires about complaints of heartburn , smoking and alcohol drinking , and family history of cancer . They are not heavy smokers or heavy drinkers , family health history is associated with 78 percent increased risk of cancer of the throat and vocal cords .

As with the people who frequently suffer from heartburn but diligently taking antacids . They have a protective effect , with a 41 percent reduced risk of cancer of the throat and vocal cords .
