Working in a factory making women more vulnerable cancer
Women who worked in factories , industrial manufacturing , bars , and casinos are known to be susceptible to breast cancer , according to researchers . Some even have double the risk for exposure to cancer-causing chemicals in the workplace .
According to researchers , the risk is due to night shift work and exposure to tobacco smoke in the workplace that makes women become passive smokers . Women who worked 10 years in a factory or work with toxic chemicals have an increased risk of breast cancer by up to 42 percent higher .
These results are known through the observation of 1,000 women who had breast cancer with 1,147 women who did not develop breast cancer in Canada .
Industries such as casinos , farms , bars , gambling places , automotive manufacturing and plastics , as well as factory packaged foods use chemicals that can affect hormones workers.
Increased risk of breast cancer by two -fold in women who worked in factories and food packaging plastics . Risks could even reach the fold in premenopausal women .
Women who work in the automotive industry and dealing with metal and iron have an increased risk of breast cancer is 73 percent higher . While women who work in agriculture and are often affected by exposure to pesticides had a 36 percent higher risk .
" Many women in this study were exposed to chemical exposure in the workplace . Knowing the risk factors in the work against breast cancer is a global problem , " said Professor Andrew Watterson from the University of Stirling 's Occupational and Environmental Health , as reported by the Daily Mail ( 19/11 ) .
Even so the experts explained that the study was relatively small and require additional information regarding the level of exposure to hazardous chemicals
