What Stomach Cancer Can You Die From
Stomach Cancer
In stomach cancer abnormal proliferation of cells occurs within the stomach. This proliferation may be benign, in most cases or malignant type.
Benign tumors of stomach cancer
Are polyps gastric. They are lesions that protrude (stick out your limits, moving forward) into the lumen of the stomach.
At the beginning of its appearance, often give nonspecific symptoms such as nausea, stomach pain, and bloating .
With these symptoms, the patient comes to the office and must realizársele endoscopic or radiologic studies to rule out something more serious.
The most common complication is gastrointestinal bleeding .
Curative treatment is resection of the polyp, which is usually done endoscopically. If the lesions are multiple should be monitored by periodic case gastroscopy.
Malignant neoplasms of stomach cancer
The most common type is adenocarcinoma of the stomach. This type of tumor can spread to other parts of the body in various ways locally to neighboring organs such as the duodenum, or esophagus; whether tumor cells reach the tumor blood vessels can potentially affect liver, peritoneum, lung, bone or skin .
The second most common type of cancer in the stomach is the lymphoma . The clinical manifestations are similar in both cases. They differ only in the biopsy, as the component cells are different in each case.
Epidemiology of stomach cancer
Until 30 years ago stomach cancer was a disease with a very high mortality rate, but in recent decades that number has decreased very significantly, thanks to early detection.
It is more common in countries like Japan , Colombia and Chile. Within Spain, areas with lower incidence of this disease occur in the Mediterranean area. It usually affects men over 60 years. In the case of lymphoma usually occurs in slightly younger patients, age 50. When it appears in people under this age, it is almost always due to family heritage cancer .
