Dr. David Katz , director of the Prevention Research Center , Yale University , said that for a long time science has shown if you eat healthy foods is one way to avoid heart disease , diabetes , and cancer . It is like the proverbial ' one paddle , two - three islands exceeded ' , where by exercising regularly and eating healthy foods always , considered to be very effective in preventing several diseases as well as heart disease and cancer , and did not rule out other diseases .

To see the relationship with the risk of cancer , the research team collected data on more than 13,000 men and women who took part in an ongoing study of atherosclerosis ( hardening of the arteries) which began in 1987 . At the beginning of the study , all participants were asked about lifestyle and healthy habits which they apply . Twenty years ago , almost more than 3000 people affected by cancer , especially lung cancer , prostate , breast , and colon .

The researchers found that those who apply 6 to 7 tips recommended healthy lifestyle , known to have a 51 percent lower risk of developing cancer than those who did not apply . While those who apply 4 tips are known to have a 33 percent lower risk of developing cancer compared with those who did not apply .

If the "no smoking " removed from the list of healthy lifestyle , then the relationship between heart health and a lower risk of cancer will be reduced significantly .

The researchers hope that if these findings can help clinicians in an effort to encourage patients to always apply a healthy lifestyle in order to avoid various diseases including heart disease and cancer .
