Bacteria in the mouth can be caused cancer
Researchers in the United States ( U.S. ) found that bacteria commonly found in the mouth can lead to cancer of the colon and rectum .
Xinhua news agency launch of two studies published in the journal Cell Host & Microbe , that microorganisms " fusobacteria " found in the mouth can stimulate the immune response of cancer genes bad and grow to form tumors of the colon and rectum .
Colon and rectum cancer is cancer of the colon and rectum . The disease is a deadly cancer that is ranked 2nd in the U.S. .
Recent research shows " fusobacteria " of the mouth is usually found in tissues of patients with cancer of the colon and rectum , although not yet known whether these bacteria contribute to tumor formation .
Professor Yiping Han from Case Western Reserve University School of Dental Medicine and his team found " fusobacteria " rely on a molecule called Fada , which is found on the surface of the bacterial cell , in order to attach to and invade cells of human colon and rectum .
Fada then turn on cancer genes and stimulates the growth of the inflammatory response in the cells and enhance tumor formation .
Professor Han's team also discovered the gene level Fada 10 to 100 -fold higher in patients precancerous and malignant colon polyps than normal .
" Fada is a marker that can be used for early diagnosis of cancer of the colon and rectum , and can be used to identify potential targets for therapeutic treatment and prevent the disease , " said Han .
Another study conducted by researchers from the Harvard School of Public Health and the Dana - Farber Cancer Institute found " fusobacteria " common benign tumors found in humans . But can become malignant over time , suggesting that these microbes contribute to the early stages of tumor formation .
In experiments using mice , the bacteria accelerates tumor formation by attracting immune cells called myeloid cells , which attack tumors and stimulate an inflammatory response that can lead to cancer .
Han said the findings will not only lead to more effective strategies for early diagnosis , prevention , and treatment of cancers of the colon and rectum , but also shows the importance of good oral health .
