Food carotene reduce the risk of breast cancer
A new study suggests that the risk of breast cancer in women is lower when they have a high level of carotenoids in the blood .
Carotenoids are organic pigments found in chloroplasts and plant kromoplas and other photosynthetic organisms like algae , some bacteria , and some fungi , as quoted by Medical Daily .
According to World 's Healthiest Foods website , high carotenoid -containing foods are good sources of vitamin A. Food as it protects the body's cells from free radical damage , high in antioxidants , enhance immune function , and contribute to a healthy reproductive system .
In a new study , A. Heather Eliassen of Channing Division of Network Medicine , the Department of Medicine at Brigham & Women's Hospital and Harvard Medical School , and colleagues analyzed eight studies involving 3,000 case subjects and 3,956 control subjects to study the relationship pigment levels higher to reduce the risk of breast cancer .
There is evidence that carotenoids may inhibit the growth of ER - positive breast cancer .
Even so, the " diet by eating high carotenoid -containing fruits and vegetables offer a variety of health benefits , including lowering the risk of breast cancer , " the researchers said .
Carotenoids can be found in carrots , apricots , mangoes , pumpkin , papaya , and sweet potatoes . Green vegetables such as spinach also contain beta - carotene and lutein as well , the report said .
