Today it is commonly known that asbestos is a hazardous substance when present in certain places and conditions. The greatest danger is when asbestos is in the air because that's when it's easier than the victim inhale or ingest. It has been demonstrated that an extended exposure to the environment increases the chances that a mesothelioma, or a lung cancer develops. Recent scientific studies show that the time and intensity of exposure to asbestos can also influence the chances of developing one of these diseases
Asbestos exposure is also associated with other health problems affecting, in most cases the patient's breathing capacity. Those who have been exposed to small amounts of asbestos are also likely to develop problems related to their intake.

Asbestos was used to insulate ships and make them impassable to fire in the ships of the U.S. Navy used asbestos as insulation and fire-fighting materials.These materials are normally found in the boilers and fire doors. Asbestos can affect the health of people in different ways depending on various conditions such as the duration of exposure and as entered in the body. These are diseases commonly associated with asbestos:
- Thickening of the pleural region of the lungs and other conditions that are caused by asbestos fibers when they stay in the pleura This leads to the lungs to heal and can be extended to other areas.
- Asbestosis , caused by scarring of the lungs. This causes damage that prevents the normal expansion and contraction of the lungs
- Mesothelioma , a rare form of cancer. Currently there is no cure for this disease. Traditional treatments for this disease, such as chemotherapy and radiation have little effect small
The number of mesotheliomas is relatively low compared with other cancers, but the incredible mortality of this disease makes it a serious threat to health. In addition to those victims who are diagnosed with the disease after direct exposure, there are other people who develop this type of cancer after indirect exposure. Regardless of the route of exposure any contact with asbestos should be avoided, as we learned from veterans who served on ships containing this item
