Asbestos in the Navy

Of all the groups that were exposed to asbestos during the period in which it was used, members were armed were the most affected. Asbestos was heavily used virtually everywhere where soldiers worked, lived, slept, ate and were. Like many others who spent the day working with this material and it is only going home to sleep, armed members could not avoid the danger of exposure to asbestos.

Exposure

During 1940 and 1970 in the U.S. asbestos was used in the barracks. The first benefit of this natural mineral are its qualities as insulation against fire, was cheap and profitable use as a perfect insulator, so as a result of its ubiquity asbestos fibers filled the air where soldiers lived and worked, Any who served during this period may have been exposed to significant levels of this material.
The members of the Navy were, of all soldiers, no doubt the most affected by asbestos. The boats were made of tons of asbestos that helped prevent the fire could be devastating in the sea, to expand. However all branches of the armed forces used these vessels, so even those who did not serve in the navy may have been exposed to asbestos fibers that filled the boats.

Results

This chronic asbestos fibers and their exposure has caused two significant problems among soldiers. Some of them have contracted asbestosis, lung inflation can cause respiratory failure. Others have developed mesothelioma, an aggressive cancer that is difficult to diagnose and is threatening. What do these particularly dangerous diseases is the distance between exposure and onset of symptoms. Many veterans exposed to this mineral symptoms only develop decades after exposure. The 30 percent of mesothelioma are believed to come from exposure to asbestos in the military, which binds many of them wait for the disease to develop.
It is not yet clear how much asbestos is necessary for the disease to develop. Some believe that the amount of asbestos and the exposure time can affect the chances that a person has to develop any asbestos-related diseases. Still others say that even being exposed to small amounts there is the possibility of negative health conditions develop. What can be concluded is that veterans were exposed to armed significant amounts of asbestos for long periods, and as a result their health is compromised. However, the full effects of this exposure is only revealed in the coming decades.
