Although statistics show a growing number of people who have never worked directly with asbestos and nevertheless suffer any of the asbestos-related diseases, many of the documented cases are caused by occupational exposure to this toxic material. This is because the disease is often the result of repeated exposure to asbestos, which has happened repeatedly in a variety of industries and professions.

Crowd work such as mining, processing plants and manufacturing plants where asbestos products were produced are synonymous with high occupational exposure.
