Mesothelioma - A Cancer That Affects The Internal Organs

Cancer is the name given to a large group of diseases, all have one thing in common, which are the cells found, growing at an uncontrollable rate. There are several main types of cancer. One of the most common and known types of cancer is mesothelioma. This type of cancer is known to affect internal organs. Mesothelioma is also known as malignant mesothelioma.Mesothelioma is a type of cancer where cancer cells develop in the mesothelium. Lung tissue, stomach, heart and other organs is described, called mesothelium.Mesothelioma is basically a cancer of the tissue. It is a rare but potentially fatal type of cancer. It usually originates in the lungs, but can also begin in the abdomen and other internal organs. Most people who develop mesothelioma have occupations where they inhaled asbestos particles. It may take a long time about 30 to 50 years between exposure to asbestos before the disease. Mesothelioma primarily attacks the outer lining of the lungs called the pleura, the inner wall of the chest, the lining of the abdominal cavity, the heart, the sac covering the heart, and vaginails robe. This cancer accumulates in people who are exposed to asbestos. Not only the work related to asbestos exposure, but also cleaning the clothes of a family member who was exposed to asbestos can put a person at risk for developing mesothelioma.Although smoking is not the main cause of mesothelioma, may increase the severity of the disease.Symptoms of mesothelioma may remain unknown until 50 years. There are basically two types of mesothelioma. Pleural mesothelioma lung damage region while peritoneal mesothelioma attacks the abdominal region. Dyspnea commonly known as shortness of breath, coughing and chest pain due to an accumulation of fluid in the pleural space are often symptoms of pleural mesothelioma. Symptoms of peritoneal mesothelioma involves weight loss, fatigue, weakness, significant loss of appetite, abdominal pain and swelling due to excess peritoneal fluid, blockage in the bowel movements, blood clotting abnormalities, anemia and fever. Diagnosing mesothelioma is often difficult, because the symptoms are similar to those of a number of other diseases. Given the patient's history, tests can be performed. These tests include chest x-ray, pulmonary function tests, biopsy and laparoscopy. Doctors may decide on the form of treatment depending on the severity of the cancer spreading. The usual treatment for mesothelioma includes traditional therapies in combination with radiation and chemotherapy. While the surgery itself hs not lead to very good results disappointing, pleurectomy / decortications is a recommended treatment, in which the lining of the chest is removed. All mesotheliomas are now believed to be malignant or cancerous. They start as a normal tumor and spread rapidly to include most of the surrounding tissues and organs. Initially, fibrous cists and other non-cancerous growths that appear on the serous membranes and mesotheliomas were considered were given the name "benign fibrous mesothelioma" and art "multicystic mesothelioma."
