The Cancer Society, prostate cancer self-help and spare cash in NRW have launched a series of training courses in Herne worth imitating. It aims to help members of the self-help group in their advice to those affected.
The certification of prostate cancer centers by the German Cancer Society also includes a fixed role of self-help in the clinical care of patients. To obtain this certificate, a center must demonstrate cooperation with a support group. The background is the "experienced competence" with their own cancer is made available to the patients at the center, so the experiences of members of this group.
If cooperation for the benefit of patients succeed, the group members should be very familiar with the structures and treatment options of each center. In addition, they should be aware of their special role as an advisory Mitbetroffene. For further development of the consultant, the Cancer Society of North Rhine-Westphalia has now eV in cooperation with the National Association of prostate cancer self-help NRW eV training for prostate cancer Herne designed, funded by the NRW Representation of the Association of spare cash eV (vdek):
The training consists of three parts: The first part, the kick-off seminar on 24/11/10 at St. Mary's Hospital Herne, under the motto "Prostate cancer treatment in certified centers" and concerned the medical basics, especially the possible side effects and consequences of the treatment, and the quality criteria for the work of the Centre and its implementation. In the second part, a block seminar on 25 and 03/26/11 at the Catholic Academy "Wolfsburg" in Mülheim adR, it's about the role of self-help, living with cancer, advising affected by stakeholders and the cooperation between the self-help group and the center. The third part, the follow-up in the fall of 2011, finally the exchange of experiences and feedback on training on the subject.
"Our experienced expertise can certainly help other patients," said Martin Buchert, deputy chairman of the National Association of prostate cancer self-help NRW. "We therefore are very pleased that have already signed up 25 people to the first training series."
