What is Colon CancerCancer of the large intestine is the most common digestive system. It is, overall, the first malignant tumor incidence and second in mortality in Spain. Most of these cancers are located in the descending colon, sigmoid and rectum.
Although malignant neoplasms of the lung and breast are served more frequently in the male and female sexes, respectively, the colon and rectal cancer is the neoplasm most often affects both sexes, being one of the main causes of cancer death in Western countries.
The colorectal cancer occurs mainly after age 50 and is more common in men. It develops almost always on one lesion benign initial call polyp , which takes years to grow and that only 5-10% of cases are malignant melanoma .
Based on microscopic features of the tumor, we can distinguish different types of cancer at this level, but in 95% of cases involve adenocarcinomas , so to be at all times refer to this variety.
In Spain, the incidence of colon cancer has increased in recent years, as has happened in general in all industrialized countries. Our country is the second cause of cancer death, with about 14,000 deaths annually
