Prevention
For germ-cell tumors of the testis there organized prevention programs.
The same tumor markers such as AFP and beta-HCG (i.e. substances that are found in the blood in the presence of this type of cancer), useful to confirm the diagnosis and to follow the evolution of the disease, do not serve in precocious diagnosis.
However, given the young age of the population at risk, it must be emphasized the importance of testicular self-examination, with attention to any modification of the Anatomy or of the shape of the scrotum.
Adults and teenagers should know the size and appearance of their testicles, looking at them at least once a month after a hot bath, i.e. with the scrotal SAC. Each testis should be examined by rotating between thumb and index finger looking for abnormal lumps, which should be immediately reported to the doctor. This may allow early diagnosis.
It is important to teach kids this maneuver also because often the only visit to which they are subjected and which provides for the examination of the testicles is that the lever, which was abolished with the decadence of conscription.
