Obese Women Can Cut Risk of Endometrial Cancer with Sports
Healthy benefits gained from the sport is no longer in doubt . A recent study revealed that regular exercise can reduce the risk of endometrial cancer in women who are overweight or obese .
" Physical activity and weight were indeed associated with a reduced risk of endometrial cancer for obese women , but unfortunately it is not significant enough for skinny women , " said Christina M. Dieli - Conwright , a researcher at the Beckman Research Institute of City of Hope , Duarte , California , as reported by Reuters on Saturday ( 17/08/2013 ) .
Previously been found strong evidence that moderate and vigorous physical activity can reduce the risk of breast cancer . The results of the study have been published in the British Journal of Cancer revealed that had previously been conducted several studies to find the relationship between physical activity with reduced risk of endometrial cancer .
In the present study , to determine whether the woman 's body size affects the relationship , the researchers looked at 93 888 respondents in Teachers Study. Of these , 976 women are diagnosed with endometrial cancer .
As a result, women with excess weight who reported regular physical activity as much as three hours a week had a 24 percent lower risk of endometrial cancer for over a dozen years, when compared with those who only had physical activity less than 30 minutes per week . But unfortunately this is not seen significant results in those with normal weight .
" Physical activity appears to be associated with a lower risk of endometrial cancer in women who are overweight or obese , " said Dr. Alpa Patel , an epidemiologist at the American Cancer Society , Atlanta.
He said there are two mechanisms of exercise can reduce the risk of endometrial cancer , which is to help the women to lose weight and to directly reduce circulating estrogen levels .
" Even in the absence of weight loss , here we see that there is a positive value of being physically active in the risk of endometrial cancer , " added Dr. Patel .
Although the relationship between physical activity and endometrial cancer risk was not seen in women with normal weight , does not mean necessarily they do not need exercise . Dr Patel said that other studies have shown the benefits of exercise are very good for keeping the body healthy and fit .
