Pregnancy safe for Breast cancer patients

Now there's hope for breast cancer patients who have been cured (survivor) to have the fruit of the heart. Research shows the pregnancy safe enough for the breast cancer survivor.

Once the doctor is concerned about the occurrence of pregnancy due to hormonal changes that can trigger a return of the cancer cells. That's why many physicians do not advise the survivor to get pregnant.

The research results are presented in the European Breast Cancer Conference in Barcelona, Spain, Friday (26/3), experts say the pregnancy for the breast cancer survivor is believed to be safe and not associated with recurrence of the disease.

In his research, Dr. Hatem Azim of the Institute Jules Bordet, Belgium who analyzed 14 studies involving more than 1,400 pregnant women with a history of breast cancer is discovered, most women get pregnant a few months or years after undergoing cancer treatment therapy. Azim and his team compared the women's group with 18,000 survivor who did not get pregnant.

"We expect the results of this study alter the advice of doctors to patients. There is no reason to prevent the survivor to get pregnant, "said Azim. Results of the study also found, Azim survivor who became pregnant had a 42 percent lower risk of death compared with a survivor who is not pregnant. It is thought to be because most women are naturally becoming more healthy while pregnant.

In response to these studies, the experts gave a note that a healthy pregnancy for the survivor depending on the type of cancer and how long the treatment therapy. Those who do hormone therapy for breast cancer generally takes five years to get pregnant.

Women should also wait two years after a diagnosis of cancer to conceive. "Two years is a period which is at high risk of recurrence of cancer cells," said Maria Leadbater, a breast cancer expert from the United Kingdom.

Azim said, the relationship between hormones and breast cancer more complicated than had been known. Estrogen does so trigger breast cancer and body when she was pregnant a woman produce more estrogen. However, the hormone estrogen in very high quantities can also kill cancer cells.
