A study conducted in mice at Georgetown University , Washington DC , USA , showed that the children and grandchildren of the mice who ate fatty foods during pregnancy , have a higher risk of developing breast cancer . Although their children were given a normal diet .

The researchers in Nature Communications ( KEEP ) also believe that this study may explain why breast cancer tends to occur in families .

Chemicals in foods can also control genes important in the fetus in the abdomen permanently . This is the likely cause of cancer in the next generation
