Advanced Metastatic Prostate Cancer - What it means for you

 

Prostate cancer can spread throughout the body through different means, but it tends to spread to bones rather than other organs. Metastasis means the spread of cancer, and prostate cancer can occur when the tumor is small. To determine if the cancer has become advanced metastatic cancer, a bone scan was used. If it is found that the cancer has spread to the bone then the disease will be treated as an advanced metastatic disease, even if the tumor in the prostate itself is relatively small.  

 

There are two different stages of the spread of prostate (or metastases), denoted by: M0 - The cancer has not spread outside the pelvis areaM1 - The cancer has spread outside the pelvis areain for advanced cancer metastatic prostate, M1 label uses. In this scenario, it is considered unlikely that the cancer will be able to be cured. Once the cancer has spread to the bones, treatment for advanced metastatic cancer centers to curb the growth of cancers and reduction of symptoms rather than a cure.
