Eating nuts reduces by 20% the risk of death

The nuts such as walnuts, pistachios or almonds, besides being very nutritious, play an important role as protective against cardiovascular disease , according to scientific studies have shown as Predimed (prevention Mediterranean diet ), the conclusions confirmed the cardioprotective role of these foods in the context of the Mediterranean diet.

Now, a new study whose results were published in The New England Journal of Medicine , and in which there has been a long follow 76,464 women and 42,498 men, has revealed that people who regularly consumed dry-seven fruits or more times week-had death rates 20% lower than those who did not usually eat them.

The study's authors say that the association between nut intake and lower risk of death compared to the leading causes of death, including cardiovascular or respiratory disorders are included and noted cancer .

They have also explained that this was an observational study can not establish that the inverse association between consumption of these foods and mortality show a cause and effect, but the data confirm the health benefits of nuts that already been shown in clinical trials.
