Researchers Develop Method of Nanoparticles to Cure Cancer
Prostate cancer researchers from the University of Alberta , Canada , is developing nanoparticle -based tools to detect and destroy tumors . According to them , nanoparticle method is considered more effective than chemotherapy or other treatment types .
" For the early stages of cancer , this tool can be used to detect tumors . While for the next phase , we are developing drugs that specifically kill cancer cells directly , " said researcher John Lewis , according to the Toronto Sun .
As reported Medicmagic ( 23/11 ) , Lewis also said that this method could be applied to all types of cancer , not just prostate cancer patients only.
Nanoparticles themselves included in the nanotechnology that includes development of technology in the nanometer scale ( a nanometer is one millionth of a millimeter ) .
Meanwhile , the head researcher Fong Cho explains that nanoparticles can be used as a method to simultaneously detect treat cancer patients .
" Our goal is to develop a method of treatment that targets the cancer cells directly , so it does not harm healthy cells as chemotherapy patients who have experienced . Surely nanoparticles have side effects that are relatively small compared to other methods , " the researchers wrote in the journal nano Letters .
In addition to developing methods of nanoparticles , the researchers also sought to identify and stop metastasis , the spread of cancer to the other organs . The reason is that metastasis is a frequent cause of death in patients .
The researchers also confirmed that clinical trials need to be applied in animal before it is applied to humans .
