Tamoxifen Helps Breast Cancer Patients
Tamoxifen , an anti - estrogen drug that was developed 30 years ago , is believed to reduce the risk of dying from breast cancer by up to 50 percent if taken for 10 years .
The use of tamoxifen in patients with cancer usually only lasts for five years and is known to reduce the risk of death by one third times , as reported by Medicmagic ( 7/12 ) .
The experiment, called Atlas observe the use of this drug in 7,000 women with cancers that are sensitive to the hormone estrogen . Half the participants were only using it for five years , while others consume up to 10 years .
As a result , there is a difference in the reduction of risk of death in participants who consumed tamoxifen for 10 years . They have a reduced risk of death over a lot , which is up to 50 percent .
" One-third of women who develop breast cancer have estrogen -sensitive disease . Research shows that taking tamoxifen for 10 years could save the lives of patients not only when they consume , but also after diagnosis , " said Dr. Christina Davies , chairman of the Oxford University study .
Meanwhile , Martin Ledwick of Cancer Research UK stated that this study also provide clarity as to how long patients should take tamoxifen cancer .
