Diagnosis of Uterine Cervical Cancer

In sexually active women of childbearing age, a routine cytology is performed in the gynecology clinic. This way you can evaluate a large majority of the population at risk, and it is possible to detect cervical cancer at very early stages, improving the prognosis of the disease. This test is called a Pap smear , and is used to study the cervical cells and detect the presence of abnormal cells. Samples from at least three different areas of the cervix are taken so that there is no area without studying.

It also uses other tests to clarify the diagnosis of cancer:

Colposcopy

It is performed when cytology was positive, or when viewed with the naked eye any cervical abnormality. This test is a purely visual examination in which an instrument with a light and magnifying database system is employed.

Schiller Test

It consists of all cervical smear with a specific solution and check if stained dark brown. Malignant cells are not stained.

Biopsy

A piece of the lesion to be studied in the laboratory is taken. Thus may offer the best treatment possible, and with it the specific type of cell that the tumor is determined.

Imaging techniques

Using imaging techniques such as CT can be assessed involvement of pelvic lymph nodes and kidneys.
